Diploma in Social Services for Children and Young People
The Diploma in Social Services for Children and Young People is a comprehensive, practice-oriented programme designed to equip learners with the knowledge, professional skills, and competencies required to support the care, protection, development, and well-being of children and young people.
The programme covers the principles of social services, child development, safeguarding and child protection, youth work, counselling fundamentals, family support, inclusive practice, behavioural management, and community engagement. Learners will develop an understanding of the social, emotional, psychological, educational, and environmental factors that influence the lives of children and young people.
Through a combination of theoretical learning, case studies, role-play, practical activities, and supervised fieldwork, learners will develop the skills necessary to identify support needs, communicate effectively with children and families, respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, and collaborate with relevant professionals and community organisations.
The programme also emphasises professional ethics, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, child-centred practice, safeguarding procedures, and the promotion of children's rights. Learners will be introduced to approaches for supporting children and young people experiencing family difficulties, social disadvantage, developmental challenges, emotional distress, or other circumstances requiring additional support.
Upon successful completion, graduates may pursue entry-level or support roles in childcare and youth services, community organisations, child and family support programmes, residential care settings, and non-governmental organisations, subject to the specific requirements of employers and relevant authorities.
