Diploma in Hairdressing
A Diploma in Hairdressing is a vocational qualification designed to train students in professional hair care, cutting, colouring, styling & salon operations. It often combines hands-on practical training, theoretical knowledge, and sometimes business/ management modules.
The UK TVET Learning College Diploma in Hairdressing is a higher-level qualification that provides the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work creatively as an employed and/or self-employed hairdresser. This qualification is aimed at those learners who hold a recognised an equivalent hairdressing qualification and ideally work in a salon.
This qualification is most suitable for those learners who wish to become a senior stylist. The qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of hairdressing and develops more creative and advanced technical skills necessary for employment. It rewards learner’s individual abilities both in practical and theory with a graded outcome of Fail/ Pass/ Merit/ Distinction.
The main skills the learner will perform are:
• Provide client consultation services
• Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
• Creatively colour and lighten hair
• Creatively style and dress hair
The learner will also develop knowledge about related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential to work and be successful in the beauty industry.

• Create a variety of permed effects
Relationship to National Occupational Standards
This qualification has been developed to align closely with the National Occupational Standards for the hairdressing industry. NOS are the UK benchmarks that describe the skills, knowledge and understanding required for competence in a particular job role.
