Diploma in Trichnology

The entire course is structured to take two and a half years to complete and to prepare students for entry into clinical practice. Once complete candidates are able to practice as clinical trichologists and become registrants of the institute of Trichologists.

The UK TVET Learning College Diploma in Trichology for Hairdressers Course is designed for professionals with a hairdressing, beauty therapy or healthcare/ medical background who are interested in the science of the hair and scalp and want a professional qualification to practice as a Trichology Consultant.

Entry Requirements:

It is the responsibility of the centre to ensure that learners have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

Duration:

250 hours (6 months)

Delivery Mode:

Theory + Practical + Demonstration + Hands-On Practice

This qualification is for learners who want to work within the hair and scalp industry. The qualification consists of 9 mandatory unit with a total of 250 hours of Guided Learning (GL) to achieve the full qualification.

The main skills the learner will perform are:
• Accurately assess hair and scalp health and identify common disorders
• Propose treatment plans (including non-surgical, topical, nutritional, lifestyle) for hair loss / scalp issues
• Use diagnostic tools (trichoscope / dermatoscope etc.)
• Advise clients professionally; know when to refer to medical specialists

The learner will also develop knowledge about related health and safety and client care and communication which is essential to work and be successful in the beauty industry.

This qualification also provides:
• Opens the door to clinical trichology practice
• Ability to progress into advanced or postgraduate study
• Pathway to teaching, research or academic roles in hair & scalp health
• Not just theoretical knowledge: the qualification provides hands-on diagnostic and treatment planning skills
• Confidence in using trichoscopes, dermatoscopes, microscopes and interpreting findings

Relationship to National Occupational Standards
